This program is made especially for our non-verbal friend or those who struggle with numbers. We have a special strategy for those whose words are limited and have hard a hard time following complex instructions, allowing our clients to archive their own goals, enhancing their self-esteem and building self-confidence on an individual level.

So, join us and Enjoy of an interactive hour playing a game of chance in which each player matches pictures printed in different arrangements on cards, winning prizes and having fun!

Painting Adventures

Come join us and explore your artistic side. Develop your skills and have fun in our relaxed classes. Each week we will explore the wonderful world of painting a having fun with your imagination. We are there to guide you every step of the way! Everyone in the class is working toward creating their own version of the same project. We will lead you step-by-step, helping you to create your masterpieces.

Baking is an exciting way to introduce a wide variety of skills, and who doesn’t like food? For some individuals, life skills are often a part of their learning; the goal is to equip them for independent living. Several distinct skill sets are involved in teaching individuals how to bake.

When you read every day, you stimulate your mental activity. Numerous studies have been conducted to understand the benefits of reading. Reading stimulates the brain and keeps it active, which allows it to retain its power and capacity. Every part of our body needs exercise to stay healthy, and the same goes for our brain. Reading gives it regular exercise and keeps it healthy and sound.

So, find a comfortable seat, a snack, blanket and put your listening skills to the test! Each week we will explore the wonderful world of fantasy.

Music is often linked to mood. A certain song can make us feel happy, sad, energetic, or relaxed. Music is a great way to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of a group! Come spend a fun hour with Ron, his guitar and the gang singing the old familiar songs, while learning new ones too!

Bowling HF

Ten-pin bowling is a competitive sport in which a player (the “bowler”) rolls a bowling ball down a wooden or synthetic lane with the objective of scoring points by knocking down as many pins as possible.

It is among the most popular to people with disabilities, as well, for many seniors, irrespective of their age or sports abilities, since it ensures physical exercise and at the same time participation and social integration. Plus, it’s great fun! Join us each week at The Bowling Depot (Meet us there or hop on our bus) as we compete against friends and knock as many pins down as you can, get your game face on!

Card Bingo

The Deal: Each table will facilitate four competitors. The entire deck will be delt to all four players, giving each 13 cards. Each player will separate their cards in four piles, representing each Suit. The Play: From a separate deck of cards, the “Caller” will select a card, one at a time, and call out the rank and suit of the card – for example “queen of hearts.” The player with the called card turns it face down. The first player to turn all their cards face down wins the prize.

Taekwondo

Sports can be a useful tool to help develop physical and motor skills as coordination, strength, and body awareness.

Taekwondo can help with many struggles that are common among people on the spectrum and provides a constructive outlet to help them express themselves through physical activity. The focus and concentration that is required can also help curb “stimming” behaviours. Encouraging attention and self-control, which can be particularly helpful with ASD.

Bingo is most certainly largely a game of luck, but that doesn’t stop a feeling of competitiveness during the game and a sense of pride after a win. It’s an engaging and fun game that can be competitive in a fun way, knowing skill has very little to do with the outcome. Let’s get one thing straight – bingo is not a boring game. It’s an exciting and unpredictable game that will get your heart racing every time a new ball is about to be drawn.

ASL Beginner Course

Welcome to ASL class!

As you probably know by now ASL is a unique language. It’s entirely different from English and other spoken languages. Grammar is not simply a matter of word order, and it also involves facial expressions and body positions. We encourage you to let go of your inhibitions and give yourself your best efforts. Remember; we are all in this together. This course is to help beginners understand ASL and how to use it. The classes will be hands on, and group practice.

Mobility Class

The movement of the body is important, no matter if you have to use a wheelchair most of the time, come and release some energy using the walkers to stretch and improve your flexibility, balance, agility, coordination, muscle strength, power and speed. Booster your physical and mental health by, improving posture and flexibility, lift mood, ease anxiety and improves your heart health overall.

Brain Gyms

Did you know that the phrase “use it or lose it” not only applies to our physical body but to brain and cognitive health as well? The mind and body are strongly related when it comes to healthy aging. Research is clear that working on our brain health is equally important and performing regular, brain directed exercises can increase your brain’s cognitive reserve.
Brain gym improves the brains functions and trains them like any other muscle in your body. It enhances high-level brain cognitive functions such as executive functions (flexible thinking, problem-solving, planning, organising, working memory), processing speed, attention, and long-term memory.

Drumsticks pounded on gym floors, clinked overhead and bounced on exercise balls. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon of rhythm and sound! A drumming-based fitness program that combines music, dance and rhythm. Use drumsticks to rock out while working out!

• Each participant will be provided with an exercise ball, bucket and drumsticks for the duration of this session.

• Full disclosure this is not a quiet activity but so much fun!

Gardening
